You've invested in a pair of handcrafted, beaded moccasins. Congratulations! You now own a durable, beautiful piece of art.
We often get questions about how to care for them. Suede and beadwork might seem delicate, but with a few simple steps, you can keep your moccasins looking beautiful and feeling cozy for years to come.
1. Prevention is Your Best Friend
Before you wear your moccasins outside, we recommend using a quality suede protector spray. This will help repel water and prevent stains.
- How: Hold the can about 6 inches away and apply a light, even coat.
- Pro Tip: Always test the spray on a small, inconspicuous spot first (like the back of the heel) to ensure it doesn't alter the color.
2. For Routine Dirt & Dust (Suede)
- Use a Suede Brush: A specialized suede brush is your number-one tool. Gently brush the suede in one direction to lift away light dirt and dust and restore the "nap" (the soft, fuzzy texture).
- What NOT to do: Never put your moccasins in a washing machine or dryer!
3. For Small Stains (Suede)
- Use a Suede Eraser: For small, dry stains or scuffs, a "suede eraser" (which looks like a pencil eraser) works wonders. Rub it gently over the spot and then brush away the residue.
- For Water Spots: If you get caught in the rain, dab the moccasin gently with a clean, dry cloth. Do not rub! Let them air dry naturally, away from direct heat or sunlight.
4. How to Clean the Beadwork
Our beadwork is hand-sewn for durability, but it still deserves gentle care.
- How: Simply take a slightly damp cloth (not soaking wet) and gently wipe the surface of the beads to remove any dust. Do not scrub or submerge the beadwork in water.
5. Caring for the Lining
To keep the cozy fleece lining fresh, you can spot-clean it with a damp cloth and a very mild, diluted soap. Let it air dry completely before wearing.
With just a little care, your moccasins will remain your go-to footwear for comfort and style, season after season.
